What happens when a teenager encounters an experience that changes how he sees himself and his future? Four years later, we reunited with Oluwaferanmi Adebayo to find out.
In 2022, Oluwaferanmi was a secondary school student participating in The Camera Is Me (TCIM) initiative. Today, he is a 300-level Law student at Joseph Ayo Babalola University and the CEO and Founder of Think Africa, now Indege.
His journey offers a powerful glimpse into what can happen when teenagers are exposed to the right guidance, opportunities, and mindset development.
Looking back at his teenage years, Oluwaferanmi describes himself as naive, uninformed, and uncertain about his identity and future. His experience with TCIM introduced him to new possibilities, including career development, photography, and the importance of thinking beyond his immediate circumstances.
But the impact went beyond acquiring new skills. He explains how the experience contributed to his personal growth, strengthened his leadership abilities, and helped him develop a clearer understanding of who he was and what he could become.
His relationship with TCIM also continued long after the programme ended. Through mentorship, he sought guidance from TCIM’s founder, Joseph Adeleke, while building Think Africa (Indegenius) and publishing his book, The Act of Activism.
For Oluwaferanmi, education remains important, but it must go hand in hand with soft skills, self-awareness, and a strong sense of identity. These, he believes, are essential for young people navigating today’s world.
At TCIM Initiatives, we believe that helping teenagers build a healthy mindset means more than inspiring them for a moment. It means equipping them to think differently, recognise their potential, and take ownership of their life stories.
Four years later, Oluwaferanmi’s story invites us to ask an important question: How do we know when a youth development programme is truly making a difference?
Watch the full conversation to hear his story, reflect on his journey, and discover what he believes teenagers need to thrive.
